Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Party
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
